Want More Twitter Followers? You’ve Gotta Do These 8 Things.

Creating unique, must-click content on Twitter? It’s an art form unto itself, requiring more than just a quick wit and the ability to cram a story into 280 characters or less. Here’s how to organically grow and engage with your following, to strengthen your overall brand.

Don’t JUST Post About Yourself

No one likes an egomaniac. Posting about news in your content vertical (i.e. the latest palette release from Urban Decay), sharing awesome content from creators in your niche, memes, etc – diversifying your Twitter portfolio is key to tweet stardom.

More Visual Content

You’ve got 280 characters per tweet – but a picture is worth 1,000 words. Attaching visual content to your tweets, even if it’s just a colorful blog post preview, causes even serial scrollers to pause & look at your post. Think pictures, GIFs, videos, infographics. Video tweets are six times more likely to be shared than text-based tweets!

Post at the Right Time of Day + Days of the Week

Multiple studies show that the best times to tweet are, per day:

    Monday: Between 10am-5pm
    Tuesday: Between 8am-5pm and 7pm-10pm
    Wednesday: Between 8am-8pm
    Thursday: From 9am-1pm
    Friday: From 8am-2pm
    Saturday: 9am-11am and 1pm-1pm
    Sunday: Between 9am-1pm and 2pm-5pm

The ABSOLUTE PEAK times to post, of all of the time frames listed above? Thursday from 9am-1pm, Friday from 8am-2pm, and Saturday from 9am-11am. At the beginning of the week, most people are focused on diving back into their work after a weekend of fun, but the closer you get to the end of the work week, the more distractable we are.

Utilize Scheduling Services

Posting at peak times is great, until you get in trouble at work or school for not, you know, WORKING. Solution? Scheduling services. We personally love TweetDeck, since it’s a free extension of Twitter. Plan out your tweets on the weekend, schedule them out. Boom. Done.

Interact With Followers

Don’t forget to actually interact with your followers! An account that’s all posts, no RTs/tags, looks like it’s run by a bot. Genuine, regular engagement shows followers and brands that you’re human, and genuinely interested in the person or the brand.

Shout Out Your Fave Brands & Personalities

Want brands and influencers to tag you? Tag them first. It expands your content reach, diversifies your Twitter page, and helps drive your tweets higher on peoples’ homepages.

Retweet Your Fans & Followers

If you’ve ever gotten a shoutout from your fave celebrity or influencer, you know that giddy “OMG THEY NOTICED ME!!!!” feeling. Return the favor, and your fans will adore you.

Hashtag With Care

Hashtags are fabulous for helping people find your content, but too many hashtags make the tweet totally unreadable. For example:

    #mybesttips for #mixing #fall2018fashiontrends #into #mywardrobe are #ontheblog #socheckitout

“Hey lovelies! My latest YT vid: Tips for adding #fall18trends into your existing wardrobe, is now live on my channel! #fashiononabudget

Which one was easier to read and understand? ‘Nuff said. Hashtags should complement your content, not distract from it. Too many hashtags looks spammy.
