Increase Commissions By Pairing Links With Codes

The word “coupon clipper” makes you think of an 80s soccer mom, sitting at the kitchen table, hand-cutting coupons for Tab and Shake N Bake from the Sunday newspaper. Coupons seem old-fashioned.

Guess what? They’re not.

Truth is, an estimated 80-90% of Americans use coupons regularly. The Internet makes it easy to find a coupon for almost everything you buy online and in brick-and-mortar stores, from candles to caskets (yes, caskets).

    COUPONS INCREASE CLICKS

A variety of studies have shown that coupons can increase clicks by up to 70%. More clicks mean an influencer’s conversion percentage goes up, which means more commissions. You want to invoke positive emotions as much as possible

    COUPONS INCREASE TOTAL PURCHASE COST

Coupons can raise the value of the total purchase by an average of 24% – hey, if you’re saving money, that means you can spend more, right? For an influencer getting PPS commissions (Pay Per Sale), their subscribers’ larger shopping carts mean, you guessed it, higher commission payments for them.

PROVIDING COUPONS UP FRONT REDUCES THE RISK OF A COUPON SITE STEALING YOUR COMMISSIONS

We’ve talked about the importance of First-Click and Last-Click Attribution before. You don’t want a subscriber clicking on your link to a shirt at Forever21, then doing a Google search for “Forever21 coupon” and clicking through a coupon site’s link to F21. Why? Because, in many cases, the site that the subscriber clicked on last, will get the credit and commission for the sale. Not cool, right? Right.

TARGETED COUPONS GET THE MOST CLICKS

In a way, influencers are an advertiser’s dream come true: Their audience is very specific (i.e. budget-friendly makeup lovers aged 15-35, Minecraft fans aged 10-18), and the audience comes TO them, instead of advertisers reaching out to consumers.

HOW TO IMPLEMENT COUPONS WITH LINKS

  • Target your coupons based on your content vertical and demographic. It makes no sense to mention a GameStop coupon if your videos are about luxury beauty products, but adding an awesome Ulta coupon code to the description next to your link to a L’Oreal mascara sold at Ulta is a no-brainer.
  • Mention the coupons in your videos, and add a clear Call To Action as well: “I’m in LOVE with these adorbs Pink Knot Front Sliders at MissGuided, and I’ve linked them in the description box along with code SHOEWHAT to save you an extra 40% on all shoes through August 13th, 2018. Click and shop, and tag me on Insta so I can see you wearing them!”
  • Don’t post an expired code. Make sure you test codes, and find out what the expiration dates and restrictions are to add to the description.
  • Do your keyword research: Good SEO strategy will help you attract new viewers and subscribers to your content.
